Could MoP and SS ranger work?
Hey guys, I am getting GW soon and I have been looking up some builds and such.... But I was wondering if a Ranger could combine the curse line to their line for some pretty cool damage. I am a noob though so I am most likely wrong with these combos but if you think you can take the concept and perfect it then by all means do so....
So here is what I was thinking of the Core of some of my ideas.
MoP Ranger: [Mark of Pain][Rapid Fire][Lightning Reflexes][Whirling Defense][Throw Dirt] - Energy management would not be needed I think, however I am not sure.
How it works: With the IAS and [Mark of Pain] it should come up with some interesting results....
Usage: cast [Mark of Pain] then cast [Rapid Fire] and [Lightning Reflexes] for IAS which I hope the skills can stack.
cast [Whirling Defense] and [Throw Dirt] for increased defense.
Touch SS Ranger - Combine SS and the original Touch Ranger for the build..
Touch SS Ranger: [Spiteful Spirit][Plague Touch][Vampiric Touch][Vampiric Bite][Unholy Feast][Whirling Defense][Throw Dirt][Storm Chaser]
How it works: Use SS and Touch spells to destroy groups with ease.
Usage: Cast and maintain [Whirling Defense] and [Storm Chaser] before and after aggroing.
Cast [Spiteful Spirit] and spam [Vampiric Touch][Vampiric Bite][Unholy Feast] for health and damage.
Use [Plague Touch] to transfer conditions like bleeding, deep wound, daze, bline, etc....
Concerns: running out of energy.
So these are my ideas. They are most likely horrible since I don't own the game and haven't even tested them yet.....

Your Touch SS ranger would need to spec attribute points into Curses, Blood Magic, Expertise, and Wilderness Survival. That spreads your points pretty thin. Normally you wouldn't want to use more than three attributes.

After casting SS and Vampiric Bites/Touches one time, you will have 0 energy.
Just go Splinter Barrage and leave Curses to heroes.

First of all, for someone who hasnt gotten the game yet, you seem to be good at making builds. I know when i first started, I thought mending + wammos = uber pwnage. But Whriling Defences, Litning Reflexes, and storm chaser are all stances, so you can only keep one stance up at a time. second of all, ur ss ranger mite have energy problems cuz u have too many 15 energy skills in there. and if ur gonna go as a mop ranger u need to have [Triple Shot] in there somewher. But, the better thing to do is to put all the curses on a curses necro. Besides, touch rangers dont work in PvE, and everyone hates them in PvP

True but you could focus mainly on Curse, Blood, and Expert, I only added Storm Chaser for the E management..... so Wilderness you can put minimal in or even leave it alone and buy runes for it....

No, you can't focus on Curse, Blood and Expert. Because Expertise will work only on two touches, so to get a decent damage you would have to get 12 curses and 12 blood magic. This leaves 7 expertise with runes, which would barely lower the energy cost for TWO skills.
Leave spells to casting classes. You have physical damage.

Welcome to the world of Guild Wars.
Since you are new there is one important fact about GW that sets it apart from other online RPGs: It is a team game.
No matter if you have human players or NPCs with you, you will (almost) always venture out with a party. In the beginning you will be limited to 4 players but as soon as the tutorial phase is over you will go out with 8 people/NPCs.
This leaves more then enough room to bring a real Necromancer that can use it's spells a lot more effectivly then your Ranger.
It is best to specialize each of these 8 characters to do one job as good as possible, a jack of all trades concept doesn't really work.
So you can just play your ranger in any way you want to and bring a Necromancer in your party that casts [[Mark of Pain] or [[Barbs] on enemies to buff your damage. Bringing them yourself is a bad idea.

In your first build: Rapid Fire and Lightning Reflexes will not stack. Attack speed increases are capped at +33%. Drop one of them, probably rapid fire for a prep that does more damage.

Realy there are opnly specific profession that can cross combine and do each others jobs, ill go through a few for you. I wont bother mentioning things like a single conjure, shock, or GoLE etc.
N/Rt's Use soul reaping for almost unlimited energy to use Rt healing spells.
E/Mo's and E/Rt's can bring some support spells.
R/W, R/P, R/A, can use attack skills from their secondary attribute, although while not as good as just taking the primary profession, these are quite fun to play and allow alot of possibility.
Me/E, to make use of the fast casting attribute, making you harder to interupt. This is mainly for PvP, but it could work in PvE aswell, but again, still not as good as taking the primary profession.
Me/N, again making use of the fast casting attribute for curses spells, which generally have a long cast time, this is mainly a PvP one aswell.
But as Megavolti said, this is a team game, one person may have damage, another may have interupts, another may hav shutdown for melee, another may have shutdown for casters, another may have protection, another may have healing, aother may have AoE damage, etc, etc.
